Work Principle of Waveguide Horn Antennas
Standard waveguide horn antennas, well-known as standard gain horn antennas, are designed for microwave frequencies. The end of the antenna is widened or flared. Due to this structure, the greater directivity allows the output signal to be easily transmitted over long distances. The maximum radiation and response correspond to the axis of the horn. In this respect, an antenna is similar to a horn.
Application of Waveguide Horn Antennas
To operate normally, horn antennas must have the smallest size relative to the input and output electromagnetic field waveguide length. If the horn is too small or the frequency is too low, the antenna will be nonfunctional. Horn antennas are often used as active components in dish antennas. The horn points to the center of the dish. The most important parameter for standard horn antennas is operating frequency range and gain requirement. The operating frequency is the covering frequency range in which the microwave horn antenna will meet all technical parameter.
