Waveguide Array Antenna

Slotted antenna arrays used with waveguides are a popular antenna in navigation, radar and other high-frequency systems. The waveguide array antennas are simple to fabricate, have low loss (high antenna efficiency) and radiate linear polarization with low cross-polarization. The narrow-side oblique slit travelling slotted waveguide array antenna is designed to suppress cross-polarization through the dual design of the choke groove and polarization grid. The product has the characteristics of high gain, low sidelobe, wide scanning angle and low cross-polarization. Taking X-band slotted waveguide array antenna with model DH-SWRAX04-128-LPD-BMA as the example below.

Difference Between Standaing Wave Antenna and Travelling Wave Antenna

According to the current distribution, the antennas are divided into standing wave antennas and traveling wave antennas.

  • Standing wave antenna: The characteristic parameters change rapidly with frequency, the frequency is very narrow, and it is a narrowband antenna.

  • Traveling wave antenna: The input impedance is equal to the characteristic impedance of the line, and when the line is long, its directivity changes slowly with frequency, so the frequency is wider.

Clarification of Waveguide Array Antenna

Clarification of Waveguide Array Antenna

Waveguide Slotted array antenna is often for high frequency and application is in radar, communication and remote sensing systems. Generally, it is linear polarization with low XPD and low losses. Dual polarization and phase-steered beams can also be offered. The special application is because they can be made to conform to the surface on which they are mounted. The slots are extremely thin at the centre frequency of operation. Compared to microstrip antennas, the slotted waveguide array antenna offers higher aperture efficiency. The slotted planar array antenna also offers typical side lobes of -25 dB or better and cross-polarization: ≤-30dB, supports linear, vertical polarized waveforms.
